Hello, I wanted to let you know about a book I just finished: African Dreams = To Tell Their Story of Old New York by A. J. Williams-Myers. Dr. = Willliams-Myers is a professor of Black Studies at the State University = of New York at New Paltz. =20 The main character is Cato Philipse, a Civil War veteran from the 54th = Massachusetts Regiment, who finds himself slipping into alternate states = of consciousness. This appears to stem from a head wound that Cato = received while he was in the service. As he slips into these states, = Cato experiences past events in New York's Black history such as the = 1712 slave rebellion, the slave conspiracy of 1741 and the 1834 New York = City riot. =20 Although the story is a bit contrived, it is still a good read and a = great addition for anyone's Black literature collection. It can be = ordered directly from the author for $15 plus $2.50 postage & handling. = Prof. A. J. Williams-Myers P. O.
