There are other ways -
If you were *a characters name* how might you have reacted to *situations*.

What made *character* react the way he did?

Explore the relationships in the book - what circumstances led to their
development or demise?

Explore the language used in the novel - choose a paragraph and rewrite
it using your own words, would your paragraph fit in with the rest of
the novel? why or why not?

Plus many more higher order questions - write a book review is very
basic thinking - how about asking questions which get the kids to think
about their answers and the what goes on in the book. Essential
Questions as Jamie Mckenzie calls them.

my 2 cents worth.
