I have started to really read this thread as it is my first year in a school setting- in the most my experience I was a public librarian so I never confronted it. And I have sent notices, through the teacher. Now I guess that the next notices will be sent home via mail. Not all of the notices are getting into the right hands, many times I get the books back with notes from a parent. I tried to institute a class contest on getting books back on time, an incentive, but I still don't have a winner since February! The idea to modify checkouts for those who carried over lost books from this year is a good one. I am also revising my general policy for checkout and reducing the number that 4th and 5th grades take out to 3 (from 4). Yes, it's tough to see favorite books never get returned, or books I bought myself that were brand new! We have a ffew weeks left of checkout, and after that I will concentrate more on this. --Kim Kim Monaco School Library Media Specialist Bellerose Ave. Elementary School East Northport, NY 11731 http://www.northport.k12.ny.us kmonaco@northport.k12.ny.us =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
