Dear Robert I cannot get my head around the US system at all but if you are looking for an excellent Masters program in teacher-librarianship (which is what we are called here) that is entirely online then you might like to check out what is on offer from Charles Sturt University here in Australia. I know they have students from all over the world and it is the largest faculty in the world devoted to this discipline. There are two courses - M.App.Sci (http://www.csu.edu.au/courses/pg/sci/m_astl/) and M. Ed (http://www.csu.edu.au/courses/pg/edu/medlib/) The key difference is the entry level of qualification you have. Fees are $A840 per unit, and you do eight units. With the $US exchange rate it would cost you about $4800 for the degree. I did my M.Ed in two years (working full time and doing two units a semester) and then followed up with the M.App.Sci because there were some units in that, that I wanted to do out of interest. I got credit for my M.Ed work and only had to do 4 units for the second Masters. The content of the courses is really up-to-date, most of the readings are online or are sent to you in a booklet and the level of support is excellent. Assignments are submitted electronically. And as well as learning about library stuff, you learn heaps about being a member of an online community and the power and the potential of the Internet. I hope I have encouraged you to look a little further afield before spending such a huge amount of $$$!
