TECH: Sony Mavica Camera

The technology coordinator in a neighboring school district is having a
problem with a Sony Mavica MVC-FD87 Digital Camera.  I said I'd post his
problem to try to help.

Here is the problem.  When a floppy disk is put in (it doesn't matter
what disk is used), they get the following error message in the LCD
window:

Format Error - Blinking Disk Icon in the Upper Right - Error Number C:
13:01 Blinking

When a disk is inserted, the disk drive for the floppy makes a lot of
extra noise, somewhat like a grinding sound as the disk is trying to be
read. The battery is fully charged and batteries have even been swapped
to see if that was the problem and it wasn't.

Does anyone know how to correct the problem?
