Question: I was discussing the use of book covers on a library web page (to show titles for summer reading, author visits, etc.) and was told by another librarian that this was "legal." (The book covers were on the other librarian's page and I asked how they got permission to put so many covers on their website? Their final response was, "well, until the copyright police show up and tell us to take it down, we're using them...") Hmmm... It was my understanding that this could not be done without the publisher's written permission. ----I've loaned by copyright books to another teacher (who is dealing with a similar issue with a project), so could someone give me the facts as stated in Carol Simpson's book or point me to a website that specifically addresses this? I've checked the archives but didn't find the specifics that I wanted. Not that I want to be difficult...I just thought that permission was required if I put it other people's work on the Web--including book covers.
