GEN: LOC or Dewey?

I have been told by a possible new hire to our district that the Library of
Congress Catalog system is up and coming and should be integrated into our
schools.  My understanding by everyone here, including local public
libraries, is that Dewey still remains the better system for the general
public.  Also, are colleges more bound to be LoC or Dewey?
I would really appreciate any information on this.
