SHARE: Advocacy

Greetings,

Last week a group of us presented our power point presentation about school
libraries and performed our Cougar Skit for the DPAC in Chilliwack.
Unfortunately, the projector wasn't working and they saw the power point on
the lap top. At the end of the presentation the parents asked some very
good questions.

We left them with two articles and our local statistics re staffing for
school libraries. I had hoped to do this earlier in the year, but better
late than never.

The next night a friend and I ran into one of the parents that was at the
meeting. She told us how good our presentation was and that they could see
the power point just fine. After we left, they had a lengthy discussion
about school libraries and plan to send out a letter in the fall to all
PACS in the district, with a copy of the statistics we gave them.

It's a small step, but we're hoping they can help us prevent further cuts
and restore library time in some schools. The BC government keeps giving
more power to parents. They do have a voice.

I know many teacher-librarians are feeling depressed and burnt out, but
there is always hope.
Don't give up the fight.
