Good morning folks! Does anyone have any experiences running a student book group that the students get academic credit for? Here's the story - I've been running a casual book group in my HS for a couple years. When asked where they would like the group to go next year they had two suggestions - meet more often, and to get credit for it. I explained that they wouldn't be able to get credit just reading, they would have to do other activities too, and as one girl put it, "I don't mind writing something about a book if it's a book worth writing about!" I am trying to make an argument with my administration to set this up similar to some of our Independent Study projects, but I am not getting very far. The biggest hurdle is getting it into the student's schedules so that we can have some common meeting time. (Because of course these are the students that have stuff going every hour outside the school day too.) If anyone has any experiences doing something like this, or with another form of "credit" I'd love to pick your brain. Thanks! -Missa Bergin, LMS missa@missabears.com Niskayuna High School Niskayuna, NY =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
