First of all, my goodness, you have set yourself a HUGE task for one summer!
It may be driving you nuts, but it would be more manageable for you to just
work on, say, re-cataloguing.  It would also be less new for your assistant to
be upset about.

So, my advice is...take on ONE of those major tasks.  Inform the assistant
when she comes back in the fall.  YOU are the librarian; even if she did take a
cataloging and classification course, she wouldn't be qualified to make all
those decisions.

You also don't want to make anything harder for your patrons than necessary;
things may have been done incorrectly, and I agree that they need to be
fixed...but personally, I would do whatever is the least "new" to the patrons.

My own opinion is do the re-cataloguing yourself this summer.  That should be
enough to keep you busy!  The patrons couldn't care less about what the
numbers are; they just need to be able to find the books.  That would be the
easiest for the old-timers to take, and the easiest to explain to your assistant.
