Does anyone know if there's a general rule for this (Chicago Manual of Style wasn't much help): A student needs to footnote from a text she's using for research, but the quote in the text is footnoted from another source. Does she use the text in hand for her own footnote, or does she need to cite the original source of the quote even though she doesn't have access to that text? TIA.
