I ask these question with fear and trepidation. Let me first say, I do not remember a thing about cataloging, so please do not chastise me for asking these questions or for not remembering cataloging. I received my degree over 15 years ago, but did not move into the library until 2 years ago. I have simply forgotten! I do very well with every aspect of my job--except cataloging questions. Here is what happens: when I am not sure where to place a book, I check other libraries on the Internet. I often find a variety of choices and the problem is, I don't know how to settle the question for myself. To complicate the matter, much of my collection is old. From what I read on LM_NET, the Dewey tables have been changed over the years. If I put the new book in a section whose Dewey numbers have been reworked, it would be like putting "new wine into old wineskins." I would rather change the whole group. 1) What Dewey books should I be using to catalog? Index version? Tables version? 2) Where do I purchase them? (Online services are not an option. I need hardcover books.) 3) I have a detailed question about Lewis and Clark books, and I would like to correspond with someone to help me. Please respond off the list and please be kind. Thank you.
