For a first grade research project, Dot asked: >In the past I have used the the Big6 Model for research and the Trash 'N >Treasure Method for notetaking. I would like to know what most of you are >using >at this level. >What kinds of graphic organizers are you using? How much bibliographic >information do you require at this level, etc. Here are my thoughts: Barbara Jansen's School Library Media Activities Monthly article is a good start for Trash N' Treasures notetaking. It can be found at http://www.lubbock.k12.tx.us/InformationFluency/Trash&Treasure/reading_for_information.htm A graphic organizer for note taking proves more helpful for the little ones than note cards. In a project about animals, for instance, the organizer might simply have "bubbles" for the five key questions being asked with limited space for responses (thus reinforcing your TNT note taking method). At first grade, I think that author and title are adequate bibliographic information (or just title in the case of multivolume unauthored reference books). I'm curious to hear other opinions on this one.
