This is in regards to a request I made asking if anyone had experience in
returning to the classroom and after being in the library, and how do they
feel...
You surprised me.... I got over one hundred replies! Evidently this is a
topic a lot of people can relate to.
Firstly, I should have made my reason for "frustration" clearer. I am not
unhappy with what I do, BUT like most of us I am tired of not having the
time to do it. I service 300 children in four days, and do a multitude of
other "tasks" that are not library related. (Teach DARE, cover Spanish
classes, etc.) I am thinking that being in a classroom will allow me the
time to do one thing (teach) and do it well.
Out of the 100 or so who replied, about 80 said DON'T DO IT! Figure out the
reason for problems and work on fixing them. I don't think this is an
option, although I would prefer it. And about 20 people said the classroom
has a lot of benefits, including the ones I am thinking of (more time to
know the kids, etc.).
I think my application will be ignored. I have been told that "Librarians
are too hard to replace." So, we will see what happens.
Thanks to all of you for your thoughtful replies. They gave me pause and
lots to think about.
