I look at the quality of the choices. ISBN specific cataloging may be important if there is a big difference in the editions (fold-out map, etc), but what is really important is subject headings and accuracy of Notes, RL, etc. Especially if we are intershelving, having two separate records is redundant. Makes it more complicated in searching, especially if there are multiple versions (HC, trade, mass market, rebound). Plus it brings up issues of not being consistent with SH, etc. The individual copy info will indicate Paperback or HC, cost, acquisition. Now, at University, and in some cases HS, it is important to have separate records as there are important variations from edition to edition.
