In conjunction with our English department, I am developing a collection of high interest books for reluctant/struggling readers at the Grade 12 applied (Ontario curriculum) level. We are looking for books with characters, themes, and cover art that will appeal to older students...many of our students complain that the curriculum texts at this level are "for little kids" and are embarrassed to be seen walking around with some of them. We're trying to build a collection of 30-40 titles for independent study and possibly a few class sets for classroom use. Any suggestions of books that have already been road-tested and well-received with this demographic would be extremely helpful. I've already scoured the archives and found some good suggestions but am trying to dig up as many titles as possible. Thanks for your help! I'll post a HIT when I've compiled our collection list.
