Know this book?--swapped identities--time travel

One of the teachers in my school is trying to find a book she recalls.  The plot--A 
boy is playing with marbles and then becomes transported back in time.  He switches 
places with a boy from the past. That boy takes up residence in the present, but he 
becomes ill.  Sound familiar?  Thanks
