Several people have asked for a hit on this topic. I have passed the =
messages on to the teacher and have only looked into a few of the sites =
myself, but it has already been a big help.
Thanks to all who passed on the information...

Try Encounter by Jane Yolen

I have been reading Lies My Teacher Told Me by James Loewen and it has =
quite a lot that you might find helpful.

These can hopefully get you started

Try these sites:

This from Scholastic site (
http://teacher.scholastic.com/fieldtrp/childlit/thnksgiv.htm ):
Native Americans have a very different perspective on Thanksgiving. Many =
do
not view the traditional American holiday in a positive light at all,
considering it more an unpleasant reminder of the negative experiences =
of
Native Americans in history. Thanksgiving: A Native Perspective is a =
source
book for teachers available through Oyate <http://www.oyate.org>. This
Native organization works "to see that our lives and histories are =
portrayed
honestly, and so that all people will know our stories belong to us."=20

Also asked a native american friend of mine this question and she sent =
some
suggestions. as you can see from the bottom of her email, she's not =
read
everything on these sites, but it's a place to start.

These are sources from the Native perspective -
some people would say it's NOT the straight scoop, but I believe it's =
more
accurate than the perpetual fairy tale.

Go to http://www.oyate.org/catalog/teacher.html and find the book
_Thanksgiving:
A Native Perspective_, for $15.00.

Also check Howard Zinn's _A People's History of the United States_. =
He's an
eye-opener on the Pilgrims.

Also, some websites:

National Day of Mourning http://www.holidays.net/thanksgiving/mourn.htm

Teaching about Thanksgiving (lesson plan from The Center for World =
Indigenous
Studies site) http://www.night.net/thanksgiving/lesson-plan.html

National Holiday For Native Americans
http://www.unitednativeamerica.com/petition-edu.htm

Are You Teaching the Real Story of the "First Thanksgiving"?
http://www.education-world.com/a_curr/curr040.shtml
offered are annotated book lists for different age groups, as well as =
videos
and other resources for teaching accurately about Native Americans.=20
