This month's "Surf Report" from the WIsconsin ECB provides links you can
share with math teachers on numbers and operations. How can number sense
help us analyze news reports on anything from the war in Iraq to affirmative
action to obesity? Why is mathematics important in sports, or cooking? Where
can your students go to easilty visualize fractions, ratios or numeric
patterns? Click on over to the November "Surf Report", because our topic

To meet the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) standard #1,
Number and Operations, a student must demonstrate a "deep and fundamental
understanding of, and proficiency with, counting, numbers, and arithmetic,
as well as an understanding of number systems and their structures."
Wisconsin Model Academic Standards state that "students in Wisconsin will
use numbers effectively for various purposes, such as counting, measuring,
estimating, and problem solving." These Web sites were chosen to help you
add a bit of fun and interest to your teaching for these standards. Or, use
them you want to recommend some Web sites to parents or students for extra
practice on numbers and operations.

Happy surfing!
