Much thanks to those who responded. Original message A sixth grade reading teacher has requested ideas for teaching situational irony. She is particularly looking for picture books or short stories that illustrate this literary device. I'll post a hit for those who are interested. Thanks. gift of the magi? The "Sweetest Fig" by Chris VanAllsburg would be a good picture book for this lesson. What about "Gift of the Magi"? Do you mean like the pig who teaches table manners in a story from one of the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books? How about Jane Yolen's, Sleeping Ugly, when the the ugly girl gets the prince and the princess becomes a conversation piece? Jon Sczieka's True Story of the Three Little Pigs and The Frog Prince Continued... probably a lot of the fractured fairy tales would have situational irony.
