I ask the kids why is it called notetaking if they don't allow you to =
pass
notes. Then launch into Information Extraction skills.

Also worth mentioning that research skills can put you in the 'Salary =
will
be $45,000 to $60,000 ...' 'average annual base salary ... $67,393' =
range. I
use a couple of examples from Fed and business job descriptions, =
especially
effective when teacher figures it out('How do I get that job?').=20

I also mention advantages of learning these skills: Notetaking helps
remember, less time rereading information (watch Simpsons while =
classmates
are rereading the history book for the test), easier to write from notes
than try to rewrite a professional writer's best edited published work, =
ease
of comparing/contrasting information from multiple resources, etc.

Oh, plan ahead to ask teacher if it is ok to show the class their notes =
on
how to take notes. They WERE taking notes, right?

Subject: Elem: Note taking Lesson

Hi all,

I am doing a 5th grade lesson on note taking with a specific passage in
mind. The teacher wants the students to highlight key words on their
handouts. However, I am doing if for an observation and was wondering =
if
any of you have any specific tips or things you tell students when you =
are
teaching this skill.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Kristin
