Title Needed

I now need to throw myself before your collective memories in hope that
someone will remember this title for a teacher who is desperately in search
of a book she remembers from the 1970s.

  It was about a little girl living in the city in an apartment
building.  She makes friends with another girl who lives there by sharing a
stone -- (she thought the title was something like The Friendship
Stone).  When the friend moves away, the other is distraught until a new
girl moves in, and by sharing the stone, they become friends.

She thought this was possibly a Little Golden Book.  But all of my searches
for anything called "Friendship Stone" comes up empty-handed, even at the
LGB site.

Ring any bells?
