CALL FOR PAPERS

The 2004 conference of the International Federation of Library=20
Associations and Institutions (IFLA) will be held in Buenos Aires,=20
Argentina, from 22-27 August. The overall theme of the conference is=20
"Libraries: Tools for Education and Development". Further information=20

The IFLA Section of School Libraries and Resource Centres, in=20
cooperation with the IFLA Section of Library Services to Children and=20
Young Adults, is organising a half-day session at this conference, with=20
the session theme "Empowering Literacy From Babies to Teens". Relevant=20
topics include (but are not limited to) literacy and libraries, reading=20
and libraries, reading promotion, information literacy, visual=20
literacy, the development of literacy materials, literacy in second or=20
foreign languages, reading materials in indigenous languages, reports=20
of relevant research, and reports of significant projects.=20
Research-based papers, in particular, are welcomed.

The IFLA Section of School Libraries and Resource Centres is calling=20
for proposals for papers related to the session theme. Presentations=20
will occupy 20 minutes with ten minutes afterwards for discussion.=20
Proposals should include the following information:

Proposals will be reviewed by the Section's Programme Committee for the=20
IFLA 2004 conference. Criteria will include originality, relevance to=20
an international IFLA audience, and relevance to the theme for this=20
session.

Please note the following deadlines:
10 December 2003: Deadline for submission of proposals
10 January 2004: Notification of acceptance of papers
8 April 2004: Submission of full papers. Those people whose proposals=20
are accepted, will be provided with details of the requirements.

Note that IFLA does not meet conference registration, travel or=20
accommodation costs for presenters, nor does it provide financial=20
support.
