Thank you to those who responded with ideas for a website of the day or
week I could post on my library computers to guide students to good
sites after school.

Web site of the day or week responses:

=====

I have a list of sites 'to visit when all the work is done' at
<http://pac.egreen.wednet.edu/library/braingames.htm> many would be
fine for upper elem (we are 6-8) and some have separate sections for
elem or mid/high. I worked from a list (cited on my page) another
teacher started.

eduplace.com

(go to edugames then go to Wackytales)

kids love this site - make up their own funny stories.

www.yahooligans.com is excellent. Kathy Schrock's website (do a google
search for her - at Discovery Channel's website) can also refer you to
many good websites. ALA's website should also be a good source.

We do a list of Web sites each month for students and teachers on a
different topic. You could check out some of the topics, each link has a
description.

There really are tons of great sites out there, but it all depends on
what they are interested in (and the age of the students.) In general,
National Geographic has some great interactive sites like Go West with
Lewis and Clark, Monterey Bay Kelp Forest Virtual Dive, Cyber Tiger,
etc. (http://www.nationalgeographic.com/siteindex/kids.html or their
general site at http://www.nationalgeographic.com/kids/), as does PBS
(www.pbs.org or

www.pbskids.org) and Discovery. But these sites are so big, it can take
them a long time to find something specific.
