I hate to be an alarmist, but I'm sensing an anti-librarian trend in the
media of late. Today's "Wall Street Journal" has an editorial called "Lost
in the Stacks," which ridicules ALA and - by extension - librarians. As one
of my colleagues remarked, it's obvious some of these critics haven't
visited a library since their school days. If they could see the wonderful
and important work librarians are doing at all levels - school, public,
university - they would be amazed and awestruck.
As for Ed Meese: I've already had one student ask me where I'm hiding the
pornography - that I'm not doing a very good job at providing it for them!!
