Dear Kate
I believe in accessibility and I have lots of books shelved separately.
They are in all sorts of containers that allow them to have their covers
facing outwards and are in sections such as Family Favourites; Timeless
Tales; Select-a-Series; Pick-a Puzzle. Each sector and container is clearly
labelled and the kids quickly learn where to find what they want. They also
learn, in due course, how to search the OPAC but my priority for the little
ones is to develop a love of the library and reading.

Subject: Target: Shelving philosophy

Hello Everyone,

I am two months into my new job as a LMS and have just received two new book
shelves in my library. As a result, a major reshelving effort is underway.
The previous librarian separated out certain authors in the Easy section and
shelved them separately on top of the low shelving. Consequently, Dr.
Seuss, Clifford, Madeline, Berenstain Bears etc. books are not shelved in
with the rest of the Easy fiction but are easy to find on top of the stacks.
Since I now have enough shelving to hold everything in the collection I am
wondering if I should reshelve these books in with the rest of the fiction.
Please let me know what works best for the K-2 crowd.
