I had a similar experience when I visited Best Buy last spring. However, a
quick phone call from my district's business office to get our account
number fixed things. I will continue to do business with Best Buy even
though I was inconvenienced one time.

Subject: GEN: Best Buy policy

Colleagues:

After spending much of this week researching digital videocameras I settled
on a particular camera and chose to purchase from Best Buy. I talked to
several people at the store during the course of my research, and they were
well aware that I was buying for school and would be using a school purchase
order. No one mentioned that this was a problem. Yesterday afternoon I
received the PO to take down to Springfield (50 miles away). I called the
store to confirm what I was getting ($2300 worth) and again told them that I
had the PO in hand. No mention of a problem. Last night I arrived at the
store where the cameras and accessories were waiting for me, PO in hand. The
person I was to meet took the bag of stuff and we went to the customer
service desk to check out. When I handed them the PO I was told that Best
Buy does not accept purchase orders! Further investigation revealed that
they changed their policy about the time school was getting out last spring,
so many of you may not know about the change.

Over the years I have purchased many thousands of dollars of equipment from
Best Buy, both for school and for myself, and have always been satisfied
with the way I have been treated. That was the main reason I chose to buy
from them. I could have gotten my cameras a bit cheaper from a New York City
mailorder business, but I chose to patronize a "local" store. In the
meantime, Circuit City, located across the parking lot from Best Buy, will
accept a school PO and will match Best Buy's prices, so Monday I'll go back
to Springfield and get my cameras from them

Sorry for the lengthy vent, but thought you might like to know that one of
my favorite vendors will not be getting any more business from me.
