GEN: book vendors

WOW, I must have a very unusual working relationship with my Borders =
school rep (I am currently on my 3rd school rep). =20

I have been able to get the corporate discount lowered to accommodate =
the way my school has multiple small ($100-500) orders. I have been able =
to get wonderful service when I needed special quotes quickly.  I have =
been able to help mold what Borders Books Fairs may look like for my =
school district, and then be also offered to other districts. The school =
rep is willing to organize Borders Book Benefit Night for each of my =
libraries since library budgets have been reduced.  And if I need to =
return any item or if I need a special service, I have been able to have =
it taken care of quickly.

Borders in Gresham, Oregon totally believes that librarians ARE teachers =
and we get the teacher discount for small purchases, there has NEVER =
been a question of whether what I was purchasing WAS for my school. (In =
fact, I make it a point to say, these books are for me personally so I =
do not get school discount for nonschool items.)=20

I do not have a B&N in my local town (there are several in Portland, =
just not convenient for me to get to) so I cannot speak about their =
policies.  But I do know that POWELL'S BOOKS in Portland, OR are also =
friendly to library staffs.  I seem to be fortunate to have book vendors =
who know the value of the local schools.

(And yes, Jean will be getting a copy of this email, I feel her store =
needs to know how appreciative I am of all of their work to make sure =
that the local schools have wonderful support.)
