I had a reading teacher recently ask me about the AR reading levels for non-fiction books. She was told that when students select non-fiction AR titles they should select titles one grade level lower from what AR indicates. In other words, if the a student's zpd range ended at 4.5, that student should select non-fiction books no higher than 3.5. I would like to know others' opinion about non-fiction AR reading levels.
