When I came, all the joke books were under 808.7, which in my DDC 20 is
considered "Rhetoric of satire and humor." I still put all my jokes and
riddles there for much the same reasons Kathie describes. It "just
works."

"It is a capital mistake to theorise before one has data. Insensibly
one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit
facts." Sherlock Holmes - A Scandal in Bohemia.

I,too, had difficulty with this topic. I was always at a loss for an
answer when a student would say, "How come all the joke books are not
together?" I couldn't exactly explain the reason for the difference in
DDC
to a 3rd grader! I also had some riddle books in the 398's! So, this
year,
I put all of my jokes and riddle books together on one shelf (under
the
poetry shelf).I labeled it the "Ha,Ha" shelf. Normally I am a stickler
for
keeping books in correct DDC order, but for my elementary students,
this
just works!
