This month's topic is Aviation History Sometimes you weed a section of your collection to refresh as much as to update. The 2003 centennial celebration of the Wright brothers' famous first flight in 1903 resulted in a publishing frenzy of titles on early aviation. This is a good time to review what you have, and add the best of those new titles released for this occasion. Look in the 629.13s for most titles on the general subject of early aviation and the history of its development. Check this number in your reference collection as well. Much of the history of early aviation is focused on those early pioneers in the field, especially the Wright brothers and Amelia Earhart - check your biography section for works on them. Look in both the individual section as well as the collective biographies. As always, check the AV collection for any old titles (and this includes ALL filmstrips!). A brief explanation of Weed of the Month for new LM_NET members: The SUNLINK Weed of the Month began in September, 1997, from an idea by Mike Eisenberg, co-owner of LM_NET, and as an effort to help provide Florida's School Library Media Specialists with guidelines and suggestions for weeding their collections a little at a time as well as adding quality materials. A section of the collection is identified each month during the school year (September through May) as a weeding target. For more information, including guidelines for weeding this area, suggested titles to examine, and possible titles to consider for purchase, go to http://www.sunlink.ucf.edu/weed/ .The current topic, as well as the archives of previous Weed of the Month topics may be found at thesame location by scrolling down the menu bar on the left side of the screen. -- SUNLINK Staff University of Central Florida Orlando, FL sunlink@firn.edu =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
