Subject: BeneFIT Online Course Launched

Colleagues:

I'm proud to announce that BeneFIT100, a free online version of our =
Fluency with Information Technology course (CSE100/Info100), was =
launched yesterday. Find it at:

http://www.fit.washington.edu [The Flash 6 version is slick!]

The site is a public service of UW and NSF for citizens to learn the =
basic fluency knowledge--skills, concepts and capabilities--to use =
computers and information technology effectively. >>When your family or =
friends ask, "How can I learn more about computers?" direct them to the =
above URL. It's self-paced and easy to skip around to "relevant" parts.

Fluency with Information Technology (FIT) has been jokingly described as =
computer literacy on steroids. It comes from a National Research Council =
(NRC) report answering the question: "What should _everyone_ know about =
IT?" UW has been a pioneer in developing the concept and implementing it =
in college course form. BeneFIT100 was funded by NSF and built by UW's =
Distance Education team. The course is free, but UW Extension will also =
offer a "for credit" version (with instructor and exams) for tuition.
