GEN: Need Short Story Title

A colleague sends along this heartfelt plea:
"Do you remember this short story?  It's about a
really rich guy who gets cancer and he takes his
treatment upon himself...the story is about how he
takes all these drugs (I remember qualudes, etc.) and
goes inside his body to fight the cancer and wins.
It's real visual with black knights and red knights
and white knights, etc.   The last line goes something
like "'went inside his own body to fight cancer and
won...and can't get out.'"
I believe this is an older science fiction title, if
that helps jog anyone's memory.
