Hi, I've been following the "please vote" discussion with interest, especially the posts about serving the community and how "my parents wouldn't stand for it." I apologize for this late post. It seems to me that in these communities in particular, gay and lesbian students, or children with gay and lesbian parents or brothers and sisters, would need some sort of acknowledgement in THEIR library that children with these personal and home situations are deserving of the same love and support we offer all children. Are we saying that gays and lesbians and nontraditional families only exist in accepting communities? Apologies for the sterotypes: it would be easy to have these books in San Francisco and harder in Charleston, but probably more important. I guess it is a question of serving the conservative majority of your community (and lots of assumptions there), or those with nontraditional needs, and how to balance the two.
