I'm with Alice on this one.

I've shared aides with the main office in past years. You won't be
surprised if I tell you that often they spent more time working in the
office more than in the library. However we were both under the direct
supervision of the principal and it was the principal's decision. I made it
my business to let the principal know that I really needed more aide time.
Eventually I was able to get a half time aide that I shared with another
school. Not as great as a full time aide but not as bad as having no aide
at crucial times when I needed her.

If I were in your position, Id' make my concerns known to the principal in
person and in a memo. If she refuses your request for a full time aide, I'd
save a copy of the memo and pursue the matter further when the budget is
being planned next year.

Good luck.
