As requested, here is a HIT for sources for free (or inexpensive) =20
website hosting for teachers/schools:

---------------------------------------------------
We use teacherweb.com and attach the teacher pages to our homepage.=20
That gives teachers the freedom to update from home and have a personal=20=

password. The $25.00 per site has been well worth it. You could have a=20=

site per grade level to save money. There is a free site in Maryland=20
connected with Maryland Public TV but it was much more complicated and=20=

needed more knowledge by the teachers as well as a very high browser.=20
We have such a range of tech abilities that teacherweb.com seemed a=20
better choice. Our PTA has a site and is better updated than the=20
teacher sites but this was just our first year.
---------------------------------------------------
The teachers at my school use TeacherWeb, and we are very, very=20
pleased.=A0 When=A0TWeb began charging, we got around the cost a bit by=20=

making 6 grade level sites.=A0 Each teacher has his/her own pages.=A0This=20=

has really been neat=A0--especially at the levels where=A0our kids =
change=20
classes.=A0 The parents have info about every teacher's=20
requirements/assignments/etc., on one Web site
---------------------------------------------------
Have you looked at http://www.schoolnotes.com ? This is the one we=20
use, in fact if you put in our zip code 28277 and choose my name you=20
can see an example. It's not really a web page, but it does have=20
several features besides just a note. The general page is free; you=20
can pay $17 a year to have it look more like a web site. Check out=20
[name removed], same zip code, to see what she does with it. But be=20
aware that she does use some html. Schoolnotes allows easy updating;=20
the hard part is to get the teachers to remove themselves when they=20
leave the school. Last year the principal paid for each of us to get=20
the upgrade, but I admit that I never took the time to learn how to use=20=

it.
---------------------------------------------------
Here is a site that purports to offer free teacher websites. You can=20
also
pay for sites. First you have to register. Then you can make your own=20
free
class website.
http://www.teach-nology.com/

Filamentality is free but somewhat limited in the amount of things you=20=

can
add. However there are NO ads

---------------------------------------------------
How about www.tripod.com? I use it for my library homepage and I think=20=

it's great!
---------------------------------------------------
I use www.schoolnotes.com. It is free and you don't need to know html.
---------------------------------------------------
Yahoo has worked out a deal with the state of NC to host free teacher=20
websites. Maybe they've worked out something with your state as well. =20=

You might want to check into it.
---------------------------------------------------
try schoolnotes.com
---------------------------------------------------
Dr. Annette Lamb lists several sites under "Free School and Teacher=20
Website
Hosting" on this page: http://eduscapes.com/sessions/brick/brick3.htm
---------------------------------------------------
My school uses a service called School Center. It is not free and I=20
have no idea how much it costs, but it has been a godsend for the=20
library because I can easily (no knowledge of HTML) create a page with=20=

links using their templates and update it whenever I want. If you want=20=

to see my page, go to www.bxscience.edu and click on library on the=20
lefthand menu. This will take you to the library home page and you can=20=

click around to see how we have used it. Every teacher has the=20
opportunity of making a page, although not all have taken advantage of=20=

it.
---------------------------------------------------
I've been on Teacher's Web several years now and this will be the=20
second =18year I've had to pay $25 to have it.=A0=A0Our district has =
site=20
space but =18they are boring and not really what I wanted, esp as a=20
library/media =18specialist.=A0=A0I adapted some of their teacher items =
for=20
the library.

I love the icons, the ease at putting pictures on the site, the fact=20
=18that I can go on in minutes from home (PC) or school (MAC) and make=20=

changes to my site.

It's well worth the $25 fee to have access to it for a year.=A0=A0Right =
now=20
  it's in the summer mode and doesn't show how I do things for classes,=20=

=0Eetc.=A0=A0
---------------------------------------------------

Thanks for all the input - I mentioned to our new principal my ideas,=20
and she said, she would recommend using SchoolNotes.com - so that's=20
what I'll suggest to the teachers.
