I just recently met a man who represented Southeastern Book Company which is based in Florida. Their website is: http://www.sebcobooks.com/ They offer a variety of materials for school libraries with processing fees very minimal and free shipping. I haven't ordered anything from them yet (just met the man last week), but I have browsed their website and I'm considering a small order to see what they provide. You might want to ask for a visit from a vendor. (If they have vendors in Texas, I'm sure they'll have some in Georgia.) Another company that I would highly recommend (not necessarily from the "south" but very affordable and with high fill rates without the cost for processing or electronic reading tests) is Rainbow Book Company. Their website is: http://www.rainbowbookcompany.com/ I'm not sure if their vendors are serving the "south" but it's worth checking out---because if they aren't, then they just might move that direction (I know that I recently recommended that they provide Texas librarians with the books from the Bluebonnet Lists and they now do that!) They work with a variety of publishers but the majority of their materials are for the PreK-8 grades. (But I must also say that I recently ordered about 40 literary criticisms--Harold Bloom's works-- and they filled the order through one of their high school book vendors. I had to wait a little while for this order because it was "specialized" but the cost was significantly lower than what I saw through other companies AND I received the processing materials (labels, barcodes, etc. are provided but are not on the books when they arrive) and MARC records free!) The quality of the materials is excellent AND the vendors will come to your school to share the materials that they have available. If you have specific requests, they will also bring anything that you tell them (such as subject areas in, let's say ANIMALS or SPORTS). I have worked with them (my representative is John Prevost in the Dallas / Fort Worth area) and he has ALWAYS given me top quality service. If anyone is interested in John's direct number to order materials, let me know. I highly recommend him! ~Shonda Brisco Trinity Valley MS / US Librarian Fort Worth, TX sbrisco021@charter.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "marci davis" <bluehilda@hotmail.com> To: <LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU> Sent: Friday, August 06, 2004 12:49 PM Subject: target: small vendors (Southeast only) > Hello- > I was wondering if anyone had suggestions of small or non-corporate-giant > vendors in the South or Georgia areas.
