Please excuse the cross posting, but I want to make sure I am doing the right thing. I know that terms/titles like "Great Negro Entertainers" are unacceptable and should be weeded. However, are the following terms considered racist as well? Chicano Mexican-American Latin-American, Latino Isn't the proper term Hispanic? I have many biographies printed in the 1940's--1970's that I am concerned about. Is there any easier way than reading most of these books to determine if they are racist or sexist? Where do I set limits? It seems to me that about 1/2 the library needs to be weeded due to age of the collection, racism, etc. (The average age of the entire collection is 1972.) I don't want to have bare shelves but I don't want incorrect information either. My professors at UNT are probably reading this, and I know that "quality is more important than quantity" but I am nervous because I am a 'newbie' Thanks for the guidance, Tricia ===== "Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read.
