My English teacher and I are preparing to read Dicken's A Christmas Carol, and she would like me to read The Gift of the Magi to the class and have some activities before beginning the novel. The problem was that when we tried this last year, the language in The Gift of the Magi is so archaic that the students have trouble grasping the beauty and meaning. My question is this - does anyone know of a story that is an "updated" version, or the same storyline in a more modern setting? Thanks, Mary Kloefkorn, Librarian D. D.
