The real question should be: "What are the names of people who eliminate librarian positions from school libraries called?" Unfortunately, I think we all the answer to that question....(idiots?). As far as the names for those who are running a library but who are not certified librarians, I believe they are called, "clerks." ....but those who "eliminated the certified librarians from those positions" might call those replacements "warm bodies"....we might call them..."underpaid, over-worked, overwhelmed, and certainly not appreciated!" (Sorry, this isn't a "bash" toward those who of you out there who are not certified it's just a sign of frustration for those of you who are placed in those positions without much help or understanding....and a frustrated "sigh" for those librarians who have now lost their jobs because of an administrator who believes that eliminating the librarian will make a difference in the budget!) How about donating half their salary to the librarian and keeping her / him on staff! ~Shonda Brisco Trinity Valley MS / US Librarian Fort Worth, TX briscos@trinityvalleyschool.org -----Original Message----- From: School Library Media & Network Communications [mailto:LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU] On Behalf Of Ann Pennington Sent: Wednesday, December 01, 2004 3:42 PM To: LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU Subject: [LM_NET] Job title Hello, Our district over the past few years has eliminated all librarians in the middle schools and elementary schools and kept the library assistants to run the library. What are the job titles of other people who run their libraries but are not librarians? I don't want to be called a librarian, I do not have the credentials, but that's what everyone calls us. -------------------------------------------------------------------- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
