Ann and everyone...

You tell it like it is...you are a Library AIDE and nothing more. You
make it very clear that the REAL librarian has been riffed and that the
services you provide are nothing like what could/should be offered by a
certified LMS. You stress how important Information Literacy is in the
world today and that it takes a professional to accomplish the task of
teaching and integrating it into the curriculum. And every chance you
get, you point out to whoever is within hearing distance that they get
what they pay for....and keep pushing to get the librarians back into
the libraries where they belong!

I gave up trying at my elementary school - my principal was dumb as a
doornail...but when they riffed the Middle School librarians in our
district...I volunteered (with a number of other wonderful parents) to
keep that library open...and when the parents learned just HOW MUCH was
missing from their children's school experience they, in turn, rallied
to get the librarian position reinstated...it took us 2 years...but we
have her back and All Is Right in the World once more:-)

Don't be complacent on this issue - be an advocate....you are NOT a
librarian and whenever you are called by that title, be sure to make the
correction and launch into your spiel about how much more the children
could be getting if they had a professional at the helm! Also be sure to
involve parents in the work as much as you can so that they realize just
what is missing....

<I shall now step down from my soap box!>

Peace and happy holidays to all!

Jody
