She may feel better if you tell her, as I tell my students, that "stupid" is
a perfectly good word that becomes a bad word only when applied to someone
who can be hurt by it, either directly or indirectly(Your idea is stupid).
It is the hurtfulness that makes it a bad word. If it refers to an inanimate
object, then it is a reasonable use.

This avoids a lot of student name calling, without making every word into a
challenge.
