I try to send out a "Roar from the Lion's Pride" [our nickname, from the =
fact that our mascot is a lion and we're the pride of the school] once a =
month, a one-page, single-sided sheet that lists new teacher collection =
acquisitions, new titles that might interest their students, updates on =
coming library events, fund-raisers, and so on. I fill in any empty =
spots with clip art, trivia questions, and quotes about reading. =
Sometimes, it's two-sided. I occasionally add a question to be answered =
by the end of the day, to win a prize (thus insuring that they will read =
them!)

For several years before my daughter passed away, I did a four page =
booklet-style newsletter once a month (like two pages of typewriter =
paper on its side and folded in half), with self-written articles on =
reading and authors, book lists, cartoons, quotes, and book reviews, on =
Page Maker. Afterwards, I had to ditch everything that wasn't absolutely =
needed and that newsletter went by the wayside. One page was all I could =
manage for a long time. Then, we got a new computer and the old software =
didn't work. I'd like to go back to doing a longer newsletter, though. =
We'll see!=20

I still do turn out from time to time an article and attached book list =
for the teachers, though (usually on my own time). The article/list for =
You're Never Too Old for Picture Books started out like that. Recently, =
I did another one about using diaries and journals (both reading =
already-written ones and writing your own) to encourage writing and =
reading skills, and I'm currently working on an annotated list of all =
the Scholastic diaries to add to it. Eventually, I'd like to sell my =
articles/lists to other schools, teachers, and librarians in booklet =
form, as well as to various magazines, since they're a lot of work.=20
