Dear LM_Net The line that stood out for me in this article was that "children rely on adults for books" (the idea was that teens had disposible income and could buy their own books if they were unavailable in the library at school or public library). But, isn't that the right way? Shouldn't parents make the decision as to what they feel is acceptable for their child to read? Many younger children have not been introduced to the comcept of sexuality and maybe a parent doesn't want the questions that may arise from reading about a gay character - even if it is , as the author states, only in the background. This is an issue with no easy solutions.
