Right on Robert! It's amazing what's available but the library world has done a
poor job of marketing what's available.

----

Examples:
Residents of Michigan don't need a library card to get access to a wide variety
of databases via the Michigan Electronic Library. You can use your drivers
license # or state id #
http://www.mel.lib.mi.us/

In California anyone can get access to any libraries resources by simply getting
that libraries card. In other words, a San Fran resident can get a San Jose
card and access to their selection of databases.

Have you seen what you have remote access to with a NY Public Library Card?
Wow!!!
http://www.nypl.org/branch/iresources.html

Indiana offers Inspire. In many cases the database can automatically determine
if you're coming in from an Indiana isp. If this is the case, no library card is
needed.

The Power Library in Pennsylvania is very impressive.

Here in the DC area I can get cards and access to remote resources from
all of the surrounding counties public libraries. Each offers different remotely
accessible materials.

gary
