I don't know much about other religious texts but, as for the Bible, I wo=
uld recommend a copy of the King James (KJV) and the New International Ve=
rsion (NIV). While the King James is recognized by nearly all Protestant =
churches and is valuable from an historical standpoint, it is on a 12th g=
rade or greater reading level. The NIV is now very widely used and is wri=
tten on a 7th grade reading level. If you also want the a Catholic versio=
n, you'll need a Jerusalem Bible. Jehovah's Witnesses use the New World T=
ranslation. Also, the Church of Latter Day Saints gives away copies of th=
e Book of Mormon to anyone who asks. Hope this helps some.

Subject: Religious texts

I believe that all religions need to represented in a library's
collection, so I was pleased to see the recent discussion on Bible's in
the library. I have been wanting to add the Koran, Book of Morman, the
Torah, etc. This would also reflect many of the student's religions.
My question: How does one go about getting the "official" (for want of
a better word) resource of each religion without asking individual
students to provide them? Doing searches on Amazon, etc. I'm finding
many translations, etc. How have you decided which to purchase? TIA,
Rita
