Here are some other sources, although Shonda has listed most of the = resources I would have suggested. If your student has access to a braille embosser, or a braille notetaker = such as a Braille Note, she would be eligible for Web-braille, offered = by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically = Handicapped. From the NLS website: "Web-Braille is an Internet, = web-based service that provides, in an electronic format, many braille = books, some music scores, and all braille magazines produced by the = National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.... = Web-Braille contains the full text of thousands of NLS-produced braille = books, hundreds of items from the NLS Music Section, and every braille = magazine currently produced by NLS." You can find out more about Web-Braille at = http://www.loc.gov/nls/reference/factsheets/webbraille2003.html If you are looking for a particular title in braille or audio to = purchase see the "Louis: Database of accessible materials for people who = are blind or visually impaired" at http://www.aph.org/louis.htm. You can = search the database by keyword, author, title, or subject, and specify = format. The database does not list prices, however, so you have to = contact each organization separately. Other sources for braille books (to purchase) Braille Institute Press 741 North Vermont Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90029 1-800-272-4553 www.brailleinstitute.org=20 They have over 800 titles for sale. Catalog is fully annotated. They = also have a Partners in Literacy subscription program for teachers, = librarians, and other professionals and agencies that allows an = organization to choose up to 25 titles a year for a pre-paid fee of = $150.00. To access = most titles, the school must become a member, although there are books = available that are in the public domain and, therefore, do not require = membership to be downloaded. The fee for an organizational account is = $200 a year, plus the subscription fees for the sponsored individual = members (a $25 sign up fee and $50 for the annual subscription). Please = note that the quality of the books may vary. =20 Other sources of books on tape (to purchase) Listening Library the best in children's publishing from Books on Tape, Inc. P.O. I have been = =3D told that she is an honor student and likes to read Braille and books on = =3D tape for pleasure. We have very few books on tape (mostly classics) and = =3D nothing in Braille. I have also been told that she likes to spend time = =3D in the media center. She will be here for four years. Currently, I do = =3D not know anything about her interests, but want to be prepared when she = =3D does show up. Does anyone have advice on providing services for this = =3D student? Where to go for inexpensive resources? =3D20 Thank you, =3D20 Patricia Stewart Media Specialist Westlake High School Atlanta, GA stewartp@fultonschools.org =3D20 -------------------------------------------------------------------- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
