Hi All,

I just did the collection analysis for my Everybody (picture) books. My husband
did an Excell spreadsheet with the number of 2004 books being "0", 2003 "x1", 2002
"x2" and so forth. The average age of the collection was 13 years, in a 5-year old
school. I know the "problem" (old) books just by looking at the shelves -- the
Babar books, Mike Mulligan, Little Toot, Big Snow, even Dr. Seuss books.

Does anyone have an analysis of what part of a collection should be "old books?" I
know that it's more critical in nonfiction and that's where most of our new books
are. Should you discard books to maintain that 10 year limit? In Fiction? In
Nonfiction? In Everybody? Are there any 'classics' - new or old - that are not
worthy of being held? Would you keep all the Caldecotts and Newberys?

I'm back after a year's absence.  Hopefully, my mailbox will not overflow again;
although the IT people insist there never was a problem.

Thanks for your input. I'll post a hit.
