CSTL Research Retreat 2005
Call for Papers

Are you currently conducting research or have you recently completed
research in an area related to teacher librarianship? The first national
research retreat will take place in 2005, planned and organised by The
Centre for Studies in Teacher Librarianship (CSTL) at Charles Sturt
University. This retreat will provide an opportunity for practising teacher
librarians and academics to present research, discuss how to conduct
research, and consider how to apply research findings. The time is right for
beginning a national research conversation, following the recent publication
of the Impact of School Libraries on Student Achievement: a Review of the
Research by Michele Lonsdale, Australian Council for Educational Research,
for the Australian School Library Association
(http://www.asla.org.au/research/) and the interest in evidence based
practice and action research by those active in the teacher librarianship
field.

The major goals of the research retreat are to:

a. provide an opportunity for practitioners and researchers to meet and
discuss teacher librarianship research
b. facilitate development of a community of research practice
c. lay the groundwork for continuing conversations about research
d. raise the profile of research in the area of teacher librarianship
e. develop a synergy based on research knowledge and practice.

The retreat format will consist of paper and poster presentations in a
focused environment, where discussion and interaction will be vital
ingredients. It will take place immediately before the ASLA national
conference, to allow participants to easily engage in both events without
time conflicts.

Date: Saturday 9 April to Sunday 10 April, 2004, approximately noon to noon
Location: Canberra ACT
