LM_NET Archive

It is with extreme wistfulness, profound mixed feelings, but a great amount
of excitement that I want to announce that I am, at least temporarily,
leaving this profession. I have been a member of LMNET for over 10 years,
and it has given me so much help, information and connection to others in
this profession. I want to thank all of you who make this virtual community
thrive. I will think of you all when I sip my coffee from the LMNET mug I
will soon buy.

I am going to be working at the school my son has just graduated from, The
Hyde School in Woodstock Ct., whose mission is family development and
character education. This extraordinary school took a child who was off
track, and living in what I call the world of “I don’t care” and helped him
to become the person he was meant to be, a person of integrity, honesty,
courage, intelligence and caring. Parents must take part in this character
development program as well, and our whole family has grown from the
process. Our son was inspired by the teachers and staff to become the best
he could be, and my husband and I have been inspired by him and the staff at
the school to become part of the magic that happens there.

I will not be the LMS at the school—they already have one. I will most
likely be working with their learning enhancement tutoring program. I will
miss the library life and all the extraordinary people who make this
profession what it is. I will be back, sooner or later, but for now, I am
changing direction. I encourage anyone who knows a teenager who is heading
down a dangerous path to look into The Hyde School (www.hyde.edu). Miracles
happen every day at this school, but only when the students, parents, and
staff make them happen.
